Residual gas analysis

Detection and analysis of outgassing rates

In the world of vacuum technology, outgassing from the materials used represents a challenge. The escaping gas flowing in can increase the pressure in the vacuum and thus limit the maximum negative pressure that can be achieved -> it creates a virtual leak. Assessing the outgassing behavior of materials, components and assemblies is therefore essential for many modern technological processes. On the one hand, this relates to the basic classification of materials with regard to their characteristics, which both depend on the application pressure and on the prevailing temperatures. On the other hand, measurements of the outgassing behaviour are a quality testing method for the cleaning of materials and components.

Part of our workshop programs is the area of residual gas analysis and provides in-depth content on, among other things: Terminology, types and design of quadrupole mass spectrometers and assistance with the interpretation of example spectra.

  • With our fully-automatic ARGAT® system, you can characterise your materials, such as plastics, alloys or adhesives, with regard to their outgassing behaviour, and you can adapt and develop cleaning processes further and make them reproducible.
